The Reference

Examined to the movement.

The Rolex GMT-Master reference 1675 is one of the longest-running and most historically significant references in the entire Rolex catalog. Produced from 1959 through 1980 — a remarkable 21-year run — the 1675 was the GMT-Master that introduced the crown guards that have defined Rolex sports watches ever since, and the model worn by pilots, jet-setters, and travelers throughout the golden age of intercontinental aviation. This 1967 example carries the matte black dial that succeeded the earlier gilt/glossy dials during the mid-1960s transition period — a moment in Rolex history that produced some of the most desirable vintage examples in collecting today. The 40mm stainless steel Oyster case is paired with the bidirectional rotating aluminum bezel insert (in Pepsi red-and-blue or all-black depending on configuration) and the original Oyster bracelet. The matte black dial features white-printed indices and applied luminous tritium hour markers (now aged to warm patina), white Mercedes hands, and the namesake central 24-hour GMT hand for tracking a second time zone. Powered by the Rolex Caliber 1575 self-winding chronometer movement, beating at 19,800 vibrations per hour, the 1675 was the first GMT-Master to add a quickset date function and the hacking-seconds feature was added to the 1575 starting in 1971. Acrylic crystal, screw-down crown, water resistance approximately 50 meters. Pre-owned.
