Examined to the movement.
The Rolex Datejust 36 reference 16234 is one of the longest-running Datejust references of the modern era, produced from 1988 to 2005 in a near two-decade run that made it the bridge between the vintage and modern Rolex catalogs. The 16234 was the reference where Rolex introduced sapphire crystal to the white-gold-fluted Datejust along with the new-generation Caliber 3135 — the movement that would become the industry benchmark for reliability over the next thirty years. The 36mm Oystersteel case is paired with an 18k white gold fluted bezel, an understated White Rolesor combination that reads more conservatively than the yellow gold version while preserving every functional credential of the Datejust line. This example carries a black dial with applied luminous hour markers and Mercedes hands, the date at three magnified by the signature Cyclops lens. Powered by the in-house Rolex Caliber 3135 with paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring, approximately 48 hours of power reserve, and Superlative Chronometer certification. Water-resistant to 100 meters via the Twinlock screw-down crown and worn on the Oystersteel Oyster or Jubilee bracelet. 1997 production, pre-owned in excellent condition.
