Examined to the movement.
The Tudor Heritage Black Bay reference 79220R, known affectionately as the Smiley, represents one of the most collected configurations of Tudor's original Black Bay generation produced between 2014 and 2016 before the brand's transition to in-house manufacture movements. The reference draws its nickname from the gilt dial's signature upward curving Self-Winding script printed below the depth rating, which resembles a smile when viewed at the correct angle. The 41mm stainless steel case carries brushed surfaces and polished chamfers, paired with a unidirectional rotatable bezel finished in burgundy anodized aluminum, the warm red tone inspired by Tudor's 1958 reference 7924 Big Crown diver. The matte black dial features gilt accents, dot and triangular hour markers, and the Black Bay line's signature snowflake hour hand with gilt outline. Powered by the Tudor Caliber 2824, a refined execution of the ETA 2824-2 self-winding movement with lever escapement and 25 jewels, delivering an approximately 38-hour power reserve. Water resistant to 200 meters with a domed sapphire crystal, fitted on a distressed brown leather strap with deployant clasp. The 79220R Smiley is now sought after as a more affordable entry to early Black Bay ETA-generation references. Pre-owned condition.
