Examined to the movement.
The Rolex Datejust 36 reference 16200 is the all-Oystersteel five-digit Datejust with smooth domed bezel, produced from 1988 into the early 2000s and one of the earliest references to carry the legendary Caliber 3135 — the movement that would become the industry benchmark for mechanical reliability over the next three decades. The 16200 represents the transitional reference between the vintage four-digit Datejust era and the modern six-digit catalog, bringing sapphire crystal, the new movement architecture, and the upgraded Twinlock crown system to the all-steel smooth-bezel configuration. The 36mm Oystersteel case is built on the architecture Rolex established with the 1945 Datejust, the watch that introduced the modern dress-watch silhouette as the first self-winding chronometer wristwatch with an automatically changing date — a piece of horological vocabulary nearly every modern dress watch still draws on. This example carries a gray dial with applied luminous hour markers and Mercedes hands, the date at three magnified by the Cyclops lens. Powered by the in-house Rolex Caliber 3135 with approximately 48 hours of power reserve and Superlative Chronometer certification. Water-resistant to 100 meters and worn on the Oystersteel Oyster or Jubilee bracelet. Pre-owned in excellent condition.
