The Reference

Examined to the movement.

The Rolex Explorer II reference 16570 is the long-running second generation of Rolex's adventurer's watch, introduced in 1989 and produced until 2007. This 1994 example belongs to the earliest series of the reference, powered by the Rolex Caliber 3185, the GMT movement that debuted with the 16570 and carried KIF shock protection, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and approximately 48 hours of power reserve. Conceived originally for cavers and explorers who could lose track of day and night, the Explorer II reads a second time zone through its fixed stainless steel 24-hour bezel and a distinctive arrow-tipped 24-hour hand, set against Mercedes hands and a date aperture at three o'clock. The 40mm Oyster case is rendered entirely in stainless steel with a black dial and luminous markers built for legibility in any light, protected by a sapphire crystal and rated to 100m of water resistance on its three-link Oyster bracelet. Robust, legible, and quietly versatile, the 16570 has become widely regarded as one of the most wearable and best-value professional Rolex references of its era, a tool watch that wears just as comfortably under a cuff as it does in the field. Pre-owned in excellent condition, dated 1994, accompanied by its original Rolex box and papers. Affirm financing available at checkout.
