The Coke nickname references the red-and-black bezel configuration that this reference was famously available in (alongside the Pepsi red-and-blue and the all-black variants), and across nearly two decades of production the 16710 became the GMT-Master II of choice for pilots, airline crews, and frequent travelers who needed to track a second time zone in a robust steel case. The 40mm Oystersteel Oyster case is paired with the bidirectional rotating black-and-red aluminum bezel insert that gives the Coke its identity, and the matching Oyster bracelet with Fliplock extension. The glossy black dial features applied luminous hour markers (tritium in earlier production transitioning to Super-LumiNova around 2000), Mercedes hands, the central 24-hour GMT hand for tracking a second time zone, and the cyclops-magnified date at 3 o’clock.
